Comfortable with the basics and looking for the next step? LOST will up your adventure game and introduce you to the next level of ROOTS adventure racing.
LOST is our intermediate event and is designed to bridge the gap between the training DAY adventure and the NIGHT race.
During the LOST race adventure, Seeds will get the opportunity to experience what the NIGHT race format is all about while still having the support of a race buddy and access to tuition and advice from the ROOTS Marshalls.
Arrive on Friday evening to set up camp and join in with the pre-race BBQ and relax with a beer as you chat to the other racers and Marshalls. On Friday there will also be the race brief that includes all the necessary safety precautions. This is mandatory for all racers in all pairs.
The race will start with all pairs being given the location of all checkpoints around the course. All pairs will also be given the maximum number of points available for each of those checkpoints. It will then be up to that pair to plot an achievable route around the course taking in as many checkpoints as possible and arriving at the half way location before the course closes at 18:00. Any pair arriving at the half way location after the cut off time will be deducted points. The later that pair is, the more points they will be deducted.
Simply locating and arriving at a checkpoint won’t guarantee you any points. This is ROOTS and we expect more from our racers. At each checkpoint there will be a challenge that, if completed, will earn your pair points. The challenge may require you to demonstrate a survival based skill such as lighting a fire, abseiling off a cliff, traversing a high line or other such skills. The challenge may be an opportunity to earn points simply by demonstrating your speed and/or strength. Each checkpoint will be different and pairs will need a good strategy just as much as the ability to self-motivate and cover ground.
As the course closes on the Saturday evening the ROOTS Marshalls will be delivering workshops on night navigation and additional navigation techniques for those looking to get an advantage before the NIGHT race. These workshops are not essential but are recommended and points will be up for grabs during a static map stance (map exam!).
The course will reopen at 06:00 on Sunday with an entirely new set of checkpoints for pairs to earn even more points. The course will close again at midday on Sunday. Again, any pair arriving late will be deducted points.
After a quick shower we will finish the weekend by heading to the local pub for Sunday lunch and to announce the winners of the LOST race adventure 2020.
The LOST race adventure is the next step in developing your outdoor skills. During this event we track the progress of Seeds that have taken part in the Training DAY adventure and look to further their understanding of the wild as they continue their journey to completing the NIGHT race at the end of the year. You do not need to have taken part in the Training DAY Adventure to take part in the LOST Race Adventure. Nor do you need to take part in the LOST Race Adventure to take on the NIGHT Race.
Patience – Logic – Strength
